How are prints produced..?
Prints are made by John Clifton using an Epson Stylus Pro 3880 Inkjet Printer, loaded with the Epson Ultrachrome K3 Inkset. Currently I mainly print onto HP Hahnemuhle Smooth Fine Art, Hahnemuhle Photo Rag, or Ilford Galerie Gold Fibre Silk Papers - depending on the subject. Papers and inks have been selected not only for colour reproduction quality, but also longevity under appropriate display conditions.
Limited and Open Edition Prints
When I began selling prints I made them available in limited editions of 25. Once these editions are sold out the image will be retired from sale. All my recent picture are available in open editions, allowing more flexibility in the use of the images going forward. In either case, prints are supplied unmounted and with a small border to allow for matting and framing at an appropriate size. In most cases pictures are composed and cropped with a standard size frame in mind - for example, an 8 x 12 inch image is suitable for matting to 12 x 16 inches, a 12 x 16 image will often be matted to fit a 20 x 16 inch frame, and a 380mm x 570mm image will suit a 500mm x 700mm frame.
Packaging and Delivery
Prints are titled, signed and, where appropriate, numbered by the photographer. They are then wrapped in acid free tissue paper and rolled carefully for despatch in a postal tube. Matted and framed prints can also be collected from the photographer by prior arrangement, but are too delicate and costly to be sent through the post. Matted and framed prints are also made available through local galleries and occaisional exhibitions.
